In 1850 a separate permanent organisation rule was passed.
During that period it was due to the untiring efforts of Mr.
Thomas Charls Lofman that The Municipality was formed on 1st
August 1852. There were nine members to this Municipality. It
was after a period of 111 years that the Municipality was
converted into a Municipal Corporation on 1st May 1964. It was
the 4th Municipal Corporation in the State of Maharashtra
The House of Members of Solapur Municipal Corporation has
been reconstructed by the Government of Maharashtra and the
number of wards has been extended from 90 to 98.
As per Mumbai Provincial Municipal Corporation Rule 1949, the
following committees have to be appointed:
a. Municipal Corporation
b. Standing Committee
b. (a) Ward Committees
c. Transport Committee
appointed by the Commissioner and Corporation.
Transport Manager as well as the duties imposed as per
Maharashtra Primary School Rules 1947 will be performed in
respect of Primary Education and for the purpose the Corporation
is the sole authority. The has the right to appoint an
Administrative Officer to supervise and control all the
recognised schools of the City.
The minimum number of the Elected Body will be 85 for the
Municipal Corporation having six lakhs population.
Above six lakhs population -
For every additional 20,000 population one additional Municipal
Member will be provided.
At the time of election of Municipal Members, Corporation will
decide number of wards and its borders by a separate
notification. The ward-wise population will be as per latest
census.
Secretary of the Standing Committee will be the Secretary of the
Municipal Corporation. The Chief Auditor will carry out audit as
directed by the Standing Committee, with help from Assistant
Auditors and Audit Clerks.
